CoalitionWILD Creating a Wilder World
We know we need to protect nature. It’s what sustains all life on this planet and our future is dependent upon sustaining our natural world. While the threats facing our planet are almost too many to count, hope is not lost. Indeed, while there may be six billion problems facing the world, there are six billion of us – each with a passion; each with a skill set. And when we each do our part, anything is possible.
CoalitionWILD – a partnership between The WILD Foundation, The Murie Center and Simon Jackson, founder of the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition – is a social movement of people under 30 creating a wilder world. The movement inspires and empowers young people by providing a platform for innovative ideas, on-the-ground projects, activities and events, focusing attention on the power of younger generations to initiate change.
CoalitionWILD has launched the Wilder World Challenge (http://coalitionwild.org/#page_id=challenge) to get more people involved in making the world a wilder place in the months leading up to the 10th World Wilderness Congress (WILD10) (http://www.wild10.org/) in Salamanca, Spain. The Wilder World Challenge will use social media platforms to encourage people under 30 to demonstrate how they are creating a wilder world. Those who share their photos, video projects or written ideas on CoalitionWILD’s Facebook Challenge page will be entered into the global social media challenge.
Each idea will help show the world how young people can celebrate and protect nature through a new generational movement, promoting and supporting successful projects and innovative ideas. Projects will be evaluated based on likelihood of success, potential impact, creativity and innovation, and must be submitted to CoalitionWILD’s Facebook Wilder World Challenge page by midnight on July 1, 2013.
CoalitionWILD’s Movement Visionaries (included below) will select the top projects or ideas and announce the winners on July 15, 2013. Some of those winners will be invited to present their project to the world at WILD10 in Salamanca, Spain on 4-10 October. Other great projects will gain mentorship from international movement leaders or a grant to provide financial support to further their idea.
The CoalitionWILD movement to create a wilder world will launch at WILD10 in Salamanca, Spain from October 4-10, 2013.
Join us for the launch in Spain and take part in WILD10. If you can’t join us in person, catch the Congress on-line thru WILD10 EnVivo. Meet other change-making CoalitionWILD members from around the world in Spain and take advantage of every opportunity to develop your personal and professional leadership skills.
You can register to attend WILD10 at www.wild10.org/en/register.
Please join our social media platforms to keep up with CoalitionWILD and the Wilder World Challenge or follow the movement at www.coalitionwild.org.

About the Coordinating Partners
The Spirit Bear Youth Coalition
Founded by then 13-year-old, Time Magazine Hero for the Planet Simon Jackson – is the largest youth-led environmental initiative in the world, with a network of more than six million in 85 countries. Having helped establish the largest land protection measure in Canadian history in pursuit of saving the endangered Kermode or spirit bear, Simon and the Youth Coalition are now working to empower the youth who gave this bear a voice and enable them to lead the issues that fuel their passion through CoalitionWILD.
The WILD Foundation
As the heart of the global wilderness conservation movement, The WILD Foundation is the only international organization dedicated entirely to protecting wilderness and wild-nature around the world. As founders and coordinators of the World Wilderness Congress, The WILD Foundation strives to get more young people involved in making the world a wilder place through CoalitionWILD.
The Murie Center
Through the inspiring legacy of the Murie family, The Murie Center engages people from diverse backgrounds to create and sustain a wilder world in a 21st century conservation movement. The Murie Center’s inclusive approach recognizes that the preservation of wildness is in the interest of all people. Through Coalition WILD, The Murie Center inspires younger generations to create a better future in their home communities for people and wildlife.
